Why the Kitchen Needs Grown-Ups
Topic: Kitchen
THE KITCHEN IS A SPECIAL ROOM
The kitchen is where food is made. It also has heat, sharp tools and slippery floors, which is why grown-ups need to be in charge.
WHY GROWN-UPS ARE NEEDED
- Heat. Stoves, ovens, kettles, pots and pans can burn you, and so can steam. Some things stay hot even when they do not look hot.
- Sharp things. Knives and graters are made for adult hands. Adults have had lots of practice using them.
- Electric machines. Kettles, mixers and toasters should be switched on and off by an adult.
- Slippery floors. A spill can make you slip. Tell a grown-up so they can clean it up.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
You can still help! With a grown-up beside you, you can wash vegetables, set the table, and mix cold ingredients. Always ask first, and keep a good distance from the stove.
REMEMBER: NOTICE, STAY AWAY, TELL AN ADULT
If you see a spill, smoke, or something hot left alone, do not touch it. Stay away and tell a grown-up right away.
