How Electricity Can Hurt You
Topic: Electrical
ELECTRICITY IS VERY USEFUL
Electricity makes lights, fans, phones and televisions work. It helps us every day. But electricity can also hurt people if it flows through the body.
HOW IT WORKS
Electricity wants to move. It flows along wires and cables inside walls, plugs and machines. It is safe when it stays inside them. It is not safe if it can flow through a person.
WHY WATER MATTERS
Water helps electricity move. That is why wet hands, wet floors and water near plugs and sockets are not safe.
SAFE HABITS
- Leave sockets, plugs and switches to adults. Never put anything into a socket.
- Keep drinks and water away from electrical things.
- Do not touch damaged cords or plugs. If something smells like burning or feels hot, step away.
- Stay away from outdoor wires, poles and fallen cables. Do not touch them or go near them.
REMEMBER: NOTICE, STAY AWAY, TELL AN ADULT
If you notice something electrical that looks damaged or wrong, stay away from it and tell an adult. Only adults should fix electrical things.
