Before You Play at Home: 5 Quick Checks

WHY CHECK FIRST?

Home is a great place to play. A quick look around before you start helps you keep playing safely. It only takes a minute.

THE 5 QUICK CHECKS

1. Look at the floor. Is it clear? Toys, bags and shoes can make you trip. Pick up your own things before you start.

2. Look up. Is anything on a high shelf or table wobbly or ready to fall? If so, play somewhere else and tell an adult.

3. Look at doors, windows and stairs. Play in the middle of the room, away from open windows, balconies and stairs.

4. Look for things that are not toys. Medicines, cleaning bottles, lighters and tools are for adults. Leave them alone, even if they look interesting.

5. Look for a grown-up. Tell a grown-up where you are playing, and tell them if something looks unsafe.

REMEMBER: NOTICE, STAY AWAY, TELL AN ADULT

If you notice something that could hurt you, stay away from it and tell an adult. You do not have to fix it yourself.

TRY IT

Walk around one room with a grown-up. Can you find three things to check using the five quick checks?
